Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
Overview:
CIMA - The Chartered Institute of
Management Accountants - is a leading membership body that offers an
internationally recognized professional qualification in management
accountancy, which focuses on accounting for business. CIMA have divided
the programme in two levels:
- CIMA- Certificate in Business Accounting
- CIMA- Professional level (Managerial level, Strategic level, Test of Professional Competence in Management Accounting TOPCIMA)
CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting:
The CIMA Certificate in Business
Accounting is an entry requirement to the CIMA Professional
Qualification. If candidate are new to business or accounting studies
and do not already have an exempting qualification they will have to
start by gaining the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting. When they
have completed the Certificate, or if they already have a qualification
that gives them direct entry, then they can begin studying for the CIMA
Professional Qualification.
Following paper are included in certificate in Business Accounting
- Fundamentals of Management Accounting
- Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
- Fundamentals of Business Mathematics
- Fundamentals of Business Economics
- Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law
Exemptions:
Following qualifications will give
exemptions from the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting. Therefore,
you will have direct entry into the CIMA professional qualification :
- A relevant degree that specialises in accountancy or business
- The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Technical level
- The Open University (OU) Certificate in Accountancy
CIMA Professional Qualification
Managerial Level:
This level comprises of 6 papers;
- Management Accounting Performance Evaluation
- Management Accounting Decision Management
- Organisational Management and Information Systems
- Integrated Management
- Financial Accounting and Tax Principles
- Financial Analysis
When an individual complete these subjects he/she will receive the ‘CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting’.
Strategic Level:
This level is made up of three subjects:
- Management Accounting Risk and Control Strategy
- Management Accounting Business Strategy
- Management Accounting Financial Strategy
One must pass all three Strategic level subjects before he /she can sit the TOPCIMA
TOPCIMA
The Test of Professional Competence
in Management Accounting TOPCIMA is the final exam you will sit. You
must appear in this exam after you have completed all other exams in
line with guidelines produced by the International Federation of
Accountants (IFAC).
TOPCIMA exam is based upon a case
study and set within a simulated business context. By passing this exam
you will prove that you have the ability to transfer your strategic and
practical knowledge to a real life business situation.
The TOPCIMA has no specific syllabus
content. Material from any of the Managerial and Strategic level
subjects could be relevant.
Study Route:

Exam Levels:
Entry for Certificate Level
At this level exams are held by
computer based assessment at CBA centres. They may be taken at any time
of year. In Pakistan the CBA centre is located in Karachi, Lahore.
- Skan School of Accountancy, Lahore
- Zeinth School of Accountancy and Management Science, Lahore
- Ali Institute of Accounting and Management, Karachi
You need to contact the CBA’s centre for scheduling the assessment and you need to pay for assessment to CBA’s centres.
Professional Qualification: Managerial, Strategic and TOPCIMA Exams
CIMA holds two paper-based exam
sittings per year, in May and again in November. February to mid-March
for May exams and August to mid-September for November exams. Exam entry
takes place online. After you have registered for professional level,
you will be emailed a confirmation of your exam entry choices within 24
hours of entering. You will need to view and print your admission advice
in the month before your exam; this contains your candidate number
which will be different for each paper you sit. The last three numbers
for each paper indicate the desk number you need to sit at. You will
need to bring a photo ID with you to the exam and your admission advice.
You will need to keep the attendance slip you will be given on exam day
by the exam supervisor.
