Careers in Hotel and Tourism Management

Overview:
Hospitality management is the name given to the academic major in which students are taught the business of running hotels, restaurants, travel and tourism-related business. The hospitality industry has grown by leaps and bounds in the past decade and its still growing. Demand for manpower in this industry therefore is immense. Star hotels require trained staff for all these departments:
  • Food and beverage- (deals with food service operations and menu’s of the hotel)

  • Housekeeping-(Ensure that rooms, lounges, restaurant, dining hall etc are clean, orderly, and well maintained)

  • Financial Management and Accounting-(overseeing accounting and cash-flow matters at the hotel )

  • Marketing and Public relations- (deals with advertising and promotion of hotel operations and functions, including lodging and dining specials and special events, such as holiday or seasonal specials.)

  • Front office-(coordinate reservations and room assignments )

  • Human Resource Management-( manage the personnel functions of a hotel)
