Careers in Education

Overview: 

The field of education has a broad appeal and offers varied opportunities for an individual from becoming a teacher to the dean of the university. Teaching in classroom is only one of the many opportunities that are now available in the field of education. There are many other opportunities like becoming heads/ Principals, school administrators, curriculum designers and working in the field of educational research and development.

Teaching:
Teaching is a demanding and rewarding profession that shapes nation’s future. One can choose to teach very young children from pre-school through the elementary grades; or teach secondary to university level Students.

Montessori Directress (ECD)

Primary
  • At least BA, BSc, or B.Ed

Secondary and Higher
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in the subject area in which one plans to teach

University Lecturers
  • Master's or Ph D in the subject area in which they plan to teach
  • Professional experience in a similar capacity

  • B.Ed/M.Ed. with sound teaching experience in relevant subject
  • Interest in HR Training and Development

Curriculum Designing:
A person with postgraduate degree in relevant discipline and formal qualifications in education could pursue a career in this upcoming and equally rewarding field. Working in this area will provide you an opportunity to excel in developing and reviewing curriculum. Apart from the core job of designing curriculum a person in the field will also be responsible to ensure that examination syllabuses are developed keeping in view the broader objectives of the National Curriculum.

Headships or Principleships:
Headship and Principle ship come under educational leadership / management. A person with post graduate degree with considerable teaching experience could purse a career in this field. Principles provide instructional leadership as well as manage the day-to-day activities in schools, preschools, colleges and universities. They plan, organize, direct, control and supervised all the activities that are related to education.

Research and Development:
One can also pursue their career in educational Research and Development.

Support and Administrative Staff:
A part from the above mentioned core careers in education; one may also serve this sector with related academic and professional background in Career Counselling, Library Sciences, Administration, Accounts/Finance and Budgeting, and Communication etc.
