Overview:
Pharmacy is a life saving profession and the practice of pharmacy includes compounding, dispensing, selling of drugs; monitoring drug therapy, advising on therapeutic values, contents, hazards of drugs and devices; and identification, assessment and recommendations to prevent or resolve drug related problems. Pharmacists study the chemistry of drugs, preparation and dispensing of drugs, its effects and eventual use for prevention and treatment of disease.

Prospects:
  • Pharmaceutical Industries: 
    Pharmacists can work with both production/manufacturing and quality assurance departments as well as in research and development section.
  • Hospital: 
    Pharmaceutical services in hospital are not merely providing supplies of medicines, but also pursue other programme elements such as rational drug use, cost effectiveness, drug information services, adverse reaction monitoring programme, storage, distribution, administration etc.
  • Pharmaceutical Marketing: 
    To sell the concept, the research, the features and benefits and the scientific knowledge, a job much more difficult than is perceived.
  • Teaching Profession:
    The pharmacist has a responsibility to assist with the education and training of future generation of pharmacists.
  • Community Pharmacy:
    It involves a close link between pharmacists and the public. Professional activities involve not only dispensing of medicines, but include counselling of patients and participation in various community health promotion activities. Many additional tasks such as (first aid, dressing and surgical appliances, contact lens care, health education, health promotion, diagnostic services, family planning advice, supply of alternative medicines and supply of veterinary medicines) are required by a community pharmacist, all are important and needed more in developing countries than in developed countries.
  • Retail Pharmacists: 
    In medical retail stores, the pharmacist prepares and dispenses drugs on prescription to the general consumer. In the retail sector, pharmacists run chemist's shops.
